A Gathering of Poets

#VoicesOfTacoma

Begun with an anthology of, about, and/or inspired by Tacoma, A Gathering of Poets continues to create space in our community for poetry and songwriting.

Beginning with Voices of Tacoma: A Gathering of Poets, a project partly funded by the 2023-2024 Tacoma Artists Initiative Program, A Gathering of Poets [a currently unincorporated organization] has been host to over seventy events, including workshops, outreach events, and twenty-eight monthly writer’s group meetings, which take the name A Gathering of Poets.

Since its inception, A Gathering of Poets has partnered with the Tacoma Public Library to host events and Tacoma Public Schools, Next Move Internship Program, to engage interns.

Intentionally focused on creating equity-centered spaces for poetry to be shared, A Gathering of Poets has created mission-driven programming that distills the essence of community building into poetry readings and events, such as the Poets Corner. This focus on equity began with the idea of creating a place to hear the Voices of Tacoma.

“Wild Rose is truly a lovely ode - beautifully done. I really like how B. Eugene B. let himself create multiple iterations of the poem, focusing on different aspects of his mother's life and memory.”

B. Eugene B.s' Artist Statement

Different forms of self are apparent in my art. My visual art is closely tied to my process of writing poetry, and these two forms of expression are considered the same child in my mind; not a closely related phenomenon, but an alternate form of the same creation.
